Memoirs of My Imprisonment

Memoirs of My Imprisonment is a free eBook of the prison memoirs of Hegumen Fr Luke (Louka) Sidarous, a Coptic Orthodox priest who lived Christ and did not only speak about Him.

Whatever he preached, he lived first, and these memoirs show it. That is why people believed him and found rest in his words. In his seven months of imprisonment he was his true, unfeigned self: a man of strength and courage who stood up for what was right without fear. Not even prison could trap his spirit. He was always a free man.

"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).

Uprightness was his mark. He believed in telling the truth, defending the Church and keeping love, and he had great wisdom to balance all three. His greatness was in his humility. His love opened its arms to every sinner, and his kindness reflected Christ's compassion for the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11-17).

When he was young, people called him "the priest who looks like Jesus". He served the poor until his last breath, thanked God for everything, and bore suffering with joy. Minutes before he left this world, he thanked God as he kissed the front and back of his hands.

"He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life" (Revelation 3:5).
