Praying with Purpose

Prayer- Just hearing the word brings a flood of images—hands lifted high, knees bent low, whispered words, or tears streaming down a face. For some, it’s an anchor of hope; for others, it’s a source of frustration. Let me say something up front: prayer is not just an act we perform. It’s not about checking a box or repeating the right phrases. Prayer is a home we build—a sacred place where we meet God, not once in a while but every day.

Now, let me also admit something: prayer is hard. If there’s anyone who struggles with it, you’re not alone. I’m right there with you. As much as I know that prayer is the answer to everything in life—peace, joy, wisdom, love—I still find myself stumbling. Some days it feels like my prayers bounce off the ceiling. Other days, I get distracted or don’t even try. Yet deep down, I know this: every good thing that God wants to pour into our lives, He pours through prayer.

This book is an invitation to something deeper, something real. It’s about reshaping how we see prayer—not as a chore but as the place where life with God truly happens. Think of it like building a house. Every house has different rooms, each serving a purpose. There’s the family room, for relaxed, heartfelt conversations. There’s the living room, where formal, structured prayers take place. The study invites us to connect with God through His Word, and the dining room calls us to pray for others. Finally, there’s the bedroom—the place of deepest intimacy, found in liturgical prayer.

Each of these rooms is vital, and together they form the home where we meet God. The process of building that home takes effort, but the reward is this: when you build it, He will come. And when He comes, He brings everything your soul is longing for.

In the second part of this book, we’ll sit together and take a fresh look at the Lord’s Prayer—the prayer Jesus Himself gave us. This isn’t just about analyzing words or memorizing lines. It’s about letting the richness of this prayer shape the way we approach God and the way we live our lives.
