Saint Cyril of Alexandria, the twenty-fourth patriarch of the See of Saint Mark is considered one of the greatest prelates of Christian antiquity. Little is known about his early life except that he spent five years as a monk in Nitria, which was the first monastic centre in the western desert of Egypt.
