The Day my Sister got Baptised
The Day my Sister got Baptised
The day of a child’s baptism is one of such excitement and glee. Try and envision how children experience this blessed mystery for just a moment.
They see the family come to church, dressed in their nicest clothes.
They sit in silent, yet eager, anticipation as the family gathers around the baptismal font, and watch as the priest prepares the books, the towel, the oils and the water.
They witness the anointing of the baby being baptised with the holy Myron.
They inch closer to the water to watch the baby getting immersed into the water and hold their breath while they wait to see if the baby enjoyed it or if they’ll cry like all the others they’ve seen.
And then, the final and most exciting part for them, they get handed a candle and are asked to join the procession going around the church.
Children love attending baptisms!
How much more precious would that day become if each child attending could see the heavens rejoicing with them during the final procession? Growing up in the Orthodox faith and tradition, children are taught of the importance of partaking in the Sacraments. But their role in God’s plan for salvation and their value in the lives of Christians can’t be completely understood unless their renewing joy becomes a personally experienced encounter with God.
“The Day My Sister Got Baptised” walks the children through the Sacrament of Baptism. Through its rhyming and engaging text, they will gain a refreshing new understanding of the Mystery of Baptism and get to experience the joy of becoming a new creation in Christ. The purpose of this book and series is to highlight the role of the Sacraments in the lives of Orthodox Christians, and to explain them to young children, growing and learning in faith. This book aims to allow children to feel that same joy that heaven feels when someone gets baptised. They will walk in the shoes of the main character and get to encounter Christ in the Sacrament of baptism, learning how heaven and earth embrace in this marvelous Mystery.
